NEW KRANNERT ART MUSEUM. CHAMPAIGN ILLINOIS.
The New Krannert Art Museum is located in the Military axis in the University of Illinois. Peyboy Dr. between Fourth St. and Six St.
The geometry of this building was inspired by the military axis that runs east to West from AXES Library to Fourth St. The axis was sculpturing the form that is deriving from a [I] shape allowing two open courtyards. The geometry was also inspired by a binoculars and a military tank. Binocular because in each wing of the building has glass allowing to observe view for far away such as bell tower, AXES Library, Business Buildings among others. Military tank because of the military origins of the University its presence of durable and strength that can resist all the harsh weather. The project’s intent is to allow the community of Champaign and visitors to have a suitable space for the art. Families, groups, students as well as individuals are invited to participate and interact. The building offer better and bigger quality of spaces for all of the galleries and new gallery's to come. This museum is design with an open floor plan to allow and facilitate the arrangement of the exhibitions according to their necessity. The museum program has more than ten galleries, indoor parking lot, sculptural garden, art supply store, auditorium, multipurpose room, offices, maintenance, research department, laboratory, plenty of space for storage and expansions possibility. Most of the areas are well connected to the exterior through vegetation and points of observation like the terrace and the patio were the public can appreciated the surrounding areas.
